Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a reliable way to replace missing teeth and offer a fixed solution for patients who don’t want removable partials or complete dentures. Implants provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances, making them a popular and long-lasting option.

Dental implants are strong, durable, and built to last for many years with proper care.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

A dental implant is a tooth replacement prosthesis—usually made of titanium—that is surgically placed into the jawbone by a dentist or specialist, such as an oral surgeon or periodontist.

At our office, we work closely with trusted dental specialists in the surrounding area to place the implant. Once the implant is healed and secure, our team will complete the restoration with a custom-made dental implant crown.

The final result is a tooth that looks, feels, and functions like a natural one—often enhancing or fully restoring a patient’s smile.

Reasons for Dental Implants

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting
  • Restore a confident smile
  • Improve chewing, speech, and digestion
  • Restore or enhance facial structure
  • Support a bridge or denture, making it more secure and comfortable

What to Expect: The Dental Implant Process

Getting a dental implant involves several visits over the course of a few months.

  1. Initial Imaging and Planning:
X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken to assess your jawbone, gum tissue, and spacing for the implant.
  2. Implant Placement:
While the area is numb, the implant is surgically placed into the bone. It’s then allowed to heal and integrate with the jawbone, which may take up to six months.
  3. Post Placement (If Needed):
Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be needed to place a post (abutment) that will hold the artificial tooth. Some implants already include this piece during the initial placement.
  4. Tooth Restoration:
After healing, the artificial tooth (implant crown) is created and securely attached to the post. This process may take several weeks and a few fittings to ensure the best result.

Once complete, the implant provides outstanding stability and comfort.

Aftercare and Maintenance

You’ll receive care instructions after your treatment is finished. Practicing good oral hygiene, following healthy eating habits, and visiting the dentist regularly will all help support the long-term success of your dental implant.
